Stiftung Planetarium Berlin

Wonder at light speed

The Stiftung Planetarium Berlin was established on 1 July 2016 as a foundation under public law with legal capacity and unites astronomical institutions for the first time in Berlin's history. The Archenhold-Sternwarte and the Wilhelm-Foerster-Sternwarte are among the most traditional popular observatories in Germany, while the Planetarium am Insulaner and the Zeiss-Großplanetarium, Europe's most modern science theatres, offer relevant and innovative forms of education.

The Foundation's institutions are modern bridges to the cosmos. As a joint facility, they are at the highest international level in terms of technology and content and form an essential part of Berlin's educational and cultural offerings. The Foundation bundles the topic of astronomy and uses synergy effects. The decisive factor here is the reorientation and professionalisation of the joint programme and the programme offerings. In addition to astronomy, the range of topics will be expanded to include other sciences.

Supporting Associations

Two non-profit associations support the work of the astronomical facilities of the Stiftung Planetarium Berlin: the Friends of the Archenhold-Sternwarte and the Zeiss-Großplanetarium Berlin e.V. and the Wilhelm-Foerster-Sternwarte e.V.

Friends of the Archenhold-Sternwarte and the Zeiss-Großplanetarium Berlin e.V.

This non-profit association serves the idealistic, financial and material support of the Archenhold-Sternwarte and the Zeiss-Großplanetarium Berlin. It was founded on 27 November 1990. Its members are students and adults and have one thing in common: they are friends and supporters of the Archenhold-Sternwarte and the Zeiss-Großplanetarium.

The members support the development and operation of the two institutions in many ways. In the years of the association's existence, dozens of small and large projects have been carried out with the help of the association.

As a member, you are entitled to free admission to astronomical events of the institutions (after payment of the first membership fee when you join).

Members receive regular updates on the programme of the observatory and the planetarium by email or post. In addition, members have free access to the publications of the association, including the astronomical annual calendar. Membership in the Friends of the Archenhold-Sternwarte and the Zeiss-Großplanetarium Berlin e.V. costs € 27 per year and a one-off joining fee of € 5. For pupils, students and pensioners, these amounts are halved.

The association is exempt from corporation tax according to the notice of the tax office for corporations pursuant to Section 5 (1) No. 9 of the Corporation Tax Act. Donations are deductible from income tax according to Section 10 b of the Income Tax Act.
